Nowadays, most instant messenger clients require you to enter your contacts manually. So does kvats: you need to enter each friend or colleague and assign them to a group.
How could this process be improved?
If we consider kvats as a "messaging oriented phone for your desktop" then we should offer synchronising the contacts with the mobile phone or an addressbook application. The logical way to do so is using the SyncML [1] standard.
Thus, we need a SyncML connector for kvats!
There are a number of providers, who offer address book and calendar synchronisation servers, such as myFunambol, the A1 synchronisation service or ZYB [²]. ZYB is very interesting, as it has a "friends-of-a-friend" networking feature. ZYB is a Danish company and was acquired in May 2008 by Vodafone.
If anybody is interested, to work on a SyncML connector, let us know.
